Replacing your ecommerce platform? First, figure out ‘the Why’!

The decision to re-platform your ecommerce business is always a challenging one. In this Digital Commerce 360 article, veteran ecommerce operations leader Dale Edman covers knowing the ‘Why’ of a re-platforming project to align everyone in the company. As technology author Rick Watson once said, “No one ever got fired for not re-platforming, but plenty of people have been fired for botched re-platforms. Starting with the Why, getting clear about your requirements, resisting the urge to over-/under-engineer, and selecting the right technology platform are crucial to having a successful re-platform project.

A b2b marketplace for whiskey buyers and sellers is now open for business with the launch of Barrel Hub. Barrel Hub’s functionality mirrors that of other popular e-commerce platforms. Registered users can search the available inventory through familiar filter and sort features. The platform serves as the marketplace, clearing house, and back-office support for all transactions. Beyond efficiency, transparency, and transactional safety, Barrel Hub has a long-term goal to de-commoditize the wholesale bulk whiskey market.

Ticketmaster antitrust lawsuit could give new hope to ticketing startups

Ticketmaster Marketplace…Too powerful? The United States Department of Justice and 30 state attorneys general filed a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company of Ticketmaster, for alleged monopolistic practices. “Live Nation suffocates its competition using a variety of tactics, from acquisitions of smaller regional promoters and venues, to threats and retaliation to agreements with rivals,” said U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in a press conference on Thursday. If a breakup were to occur, it could also pave the way for other ticketing startups to gain traction in an industry where they now face an uphill battle when going against Ticketmaster.
