The Challenge
As a global leader in delivering market-leading loyalty programs for their clients and customers, cxLoyalty managed an extensive fulfillment business that relied on a third-party drop ship model. However, the technology supporting their dropship operations had several limitations that hindered growth and efficiency.
Firstly, the marketplace and dropship programs operated on separate platforms, which caused significant friction in the end customer experience. This fragmentation made it difficult to offer a seamless journey for customers engaging with both programs. Additionally, the marketplace solution was running on legacy systems that allowed for minimal integration with newer platforms, particularly those utilizing headless commerce front ends, which limited the company’s ability to stay current with modern ecommerce trends.
The existing technology architecture also lacked the workflow flexibility and customization needed to expand into new categories by adding third-party sellers to the marketplace. Without this capability, cxLoyalty struggled to diversify its product offerings and efficiently scale its operations. Moreover, expanding the product assortment and increasing operational capacity by shifting more responsibilities to third-party sellers was challenging under the current system. These limitations highlighted the need for a more agile, integrated technology solution to support cxLoyalty’s growing fulfillment business.
The Solution
The McFadyen team conducted an in-depth discovery process with the client to fully understand their goals for the Mirakl Marketplace implementation. The client was looking to build the marketplace within accelerated timelines, but without compromising the quality of the implementation. Their objective was to replace their existing dropship solution with Mirakl and integrate it seamlessly with their ecommerce frontend.
McFadyen assisted cxLoyalty by implementing the Mirakl platform, enabling the client to offer multi-seller dropshipping features and functionalities. This involved replacing their legacy dropship platforms, OTIS and SPS Commerce, with the more robust Mirakl solution. Additionally, McFadyen developed a custom Supplier Invoicing solution tailored to the client’s needs and built a marketplace connector to link their proprietary order capture platform, LOLA, with Mirakl and SAP.
To support the scalability and efficiency of the system, McFadyen implemented a microservices architecture using AWS Lambda functions and AWS cloud infrastructure, facilitating seamless information exchange between LOLA, Mirakl, and SAP. Finally, McFadyen developed a reusable, serverless framework on AWS, providing the client with a flexible, scalable solution that could grow with their evolving business needs.
