The Client
With corporate headquarters in Philadephia, the client is a leading international
pharmaceutical company which employs 40,000 people in 49 facilities
worldwide. The organization is focused on research and development
and has a long history of leading-edge innovation in pharmaceuticals
and biotechnology. The organization has demonstrated leadership
in improving healthcare in many areas including women's health,
gastrointestinal diseases, infectious diseases, neuroscience,
transplantation and immunology, musculoskeletal diseases, vaccines,
nutritionals, hemophilia, cardiovascular diseases, and oncology.
The Business Challenge
McFadyen Solutions
worked closely with the clients for over 2 years on major projects
including Y2K validation and database tuning performance analysis.
- Report for Product Specifications System
Once the Y2K validation
project and the Database Tuning and Performance Analysis
were complete, McFadyen Solutions focused on improving
the RPS system. The client was working with RPS documents
using an old mainframe system, many of the RPS documents
were kept in old electronic format. McFadyen Solutions
worked with the client to help define functional requirements
and to create the Conceptual and Physical datamodel, design
the database, and include a complex OPL programming to improve
the Locate RPS documents required by the users.
- Database Tuning and Performance Analysis
The client required optimization of complex ORACLE SQL scripts
related to their Packaging Specifications systems. After
analysis of the ORACLE dynamic and static tables and views,
MC suggested changes to the locations of the ORACLE physical
files in the Client hard drive, modifications with hard
drives controllers and completed a full analysis and tuning
of the complex queries used in the system. The time response
was considerably reduced after the complete analysis and
tuning process was completed.
- Packaging Specifications System Redesign
With the inclusion
of the RPS, the increment of users, and the documents, the
client wanted to guarantee a high performance in their operations
to expand the product line and operate globally. To enable
this goal, McFadyen Solutions redesigned the main packaging
specification system. McFadyen worked with the client to
analyze the current data model, creating new customizations,
improving some key process such as locating documents and
completing all the requirements on time. The enhanced Conceptual
and Physical data models for Packaging and RPS, provided
the client with a powerful tool to build a complete data
model for meeting business process goals.
- Y2K Validation Project
The project included: an overview analysis of the windows with date fields, tables associated to windows with date fields, ORACLE procedures, and OPL code associated with the windows with dates fields; time estimates to complete the Year 2000 testing; test environment specifications (hardware & software); and an initial test to run, test scripts design and creation, and Y2K lab testing. This Project was completed on time, under budget and following the FDA standards regulations.
The Return on Investment
McFadyen Solutions
worked closely with the client to test and tune a well-planned
EDMS system. Goals for the system included: addressing technical
concerns of the client, making the system comfortable for
those involved in the workflow, and incorporating legacy components
that had proven previously successful. Within the new system
(RPS), redesigns (Packaging Specifications) and performance/
tuning (ORACLE database), The client has met the goal of equipping
their business according with the new demanding economic changes
in this challenging electronic and global economy. McFadyen Solutions continues to provide ongoing support for the client
in all the systems with a high degree of client satisfaction.
