Founded in early 2000, the ATG Users Group has stayed true to the mission statement "To bring together and make available valuable resources from experts, end-users, and ATG to enable the entire community to get the most from their IT investments". This mission is carried out via regional educational seminars and online. Regional events focus on the business and technical applications of ATG products, pulling together industry experts as speakers and showcasing case studies to demonstrate how others have experienced measurable business success through the use of ATG. Cities including Washington, D.C., New York City, Minneapolis, Boulder, and San Francisco currently have active chapters that hold events on a regular basis.

The Business Challenge

McFadyen Solutions's goal was to showcase ATG 6 platform and improve Users Group experience through migration the DynamoUsersGroup.org running on Dynamo 5.1 using JHTML technology, to ATG 6 using J2EE compliant technology utilizing ATG portal, scenario personalization, and ATG publishing. The challenge for McFadyen Solutions was to migrate ATG's proprietary technology to standards J2EE tecnology without re-developing the entire project from top to bottom.

The Technical and Design Challenge

McFadyen Solutions proven project development methodology proved fruitful to provide control over the migration process to enable safe transition of all resources, and data into the new architectural design. The main goal was to use ATG's new technology with duplication of efforts, but also without losing much of the site assets or functionality.

The Technology

• J2ee Attributes:
  McFadyen Solutions utilized j2ee standard specification to improve application portability among ATG platform version that supports j2ee standards, this also improved portability of application utilizing a different j2ee compliant application server powered by ATG relationship management, portal, publishing or commerce.
  
• Relationship Management Attributes:
  McFadyen Solutions has utilized scenario personalized to deliver reliable personalized support services to site users, such as profile management, portal customization, scenario based emails, events, and actions. Also, AtgUsersGroup.org delivers highlights, messages, and personalized text using scenario populated slots, which also tracks users' frequency, and audit trail to add to the over all experience.
  
• Portal and Publishing Attributes:
  McFadyen Solutions also provide extreme customization to AtgUsersGroup.org members utilizing ATG portal platform using portlets. The portal platform enables community members (registered users) personalize their experience and tailor the community to their liking. McFadyen Solutions also utilizes ATG publishing to manage the process of information delivery and personalization through uniform and easy to use workflows and processes to deploy editions while having complete control over site content just over and http connection.
