Refers collectively to all types of Digital Subscriber Lines, the main categories being ADSL (asynchronous - different upstream & downstream speeds), SDSL (synchronous), and HDSL (High-data-rate). This copper wire connection uses sophisticated modulation schemes to connect the “last-mile” between telephone switching stations and homes/small offices. DSL can provide speeds from 128 Kbps up to 6.1 Mbps over existing phone lines.
